Toshiba TEC Corporation planned to expand the production site in China in order to strengthen its commitment to the remarkably growing digital copier(Multifunction Peripheral)market. Now, the well-organized production system has been shipping since August 2001.

In 1994, Toshiba TEC started overseas production of copiers at its production site in China, TOSHIBA COPYING MACHINE (Shenzhen) CO., LTD. A new plant was built in April 2001, within the proximity of the production site. Production will be doubled in the new plant when its production efficiency is maximized. At the beginning of July, production facilities were introduced, gradually transferring all operations to the new plant, and conducted its first official test on July 20th.

The new plant manufactures 25,000 analog copiers and digital copiers (Multifunction Peripherals)capable of printing 45 pages ppm or less, a month. It entered mass production to accommodate North America, Australia, and Asian countries, including Japan.

The new plant has improved its efficiency in the shipping and receiving department while improving upon the production system by achieving in-plant manufacture and distribution. This department is on the same floor where the parts are assembled, stored, along with finished products. The ratio of in-plant manufacturing of units and options has increased to 70% to improve inventory control and minimize intermediate work-in-process.
In association with its international procurement division in Hong Kong, TOSHIBA TEC (H.K.) LOGISTICS & PROCUREMENT LIMITED, the new plant has tried to increase the ratio of local procurement of parts to 80% or greater. Further, it introduced the Oracle ERP to achieve efficient business information management.
